Integrate Model Context Protocol servers into Claude Code plugins so external services and APIs can be exposed as structured tools.

Configure a Claude Code plugin to bundle an MCP server using a root-level `.mcp.json` or the `mcpServers` field in `plugin.json`.
Select and configure a stdio, SSE, HTTP, or WebSocket MCP server for local tools or external services.
Pre-allow the specific MCP tool names needed by plugin commands.
Document required environment variables and test authentication and error cases.

MCP tools available to the plugin with names prefixed as `mcp__plugin_<plugin-name>_<server-name>__<tool-name>`.
A plugin MCP configuration in `.mcp.json` or `plugin.json`.

Configuration changes require a Claude Code restart.
Connection, authentication, and tool-call failures need to be handled by commands or workflows.
Tool names must match the names discovered from the connected server.
Verify that the MCP configuration is valid JSON.
Run `/mcp` and confirm the plugin-provided server and its tools appear.
Test MCP tool calls from the relevant plugin commands.
Confirm required environment variables are documented and available.
Test authentication plus connection and tool-call error cases.
