totec448-spec/chat-on-steroids

chat-on-steroids turns ChatGPT into a Codex-style local coding workspace, giving it access to files, terminals and the desktop for real coding and multi-agent work. It adds file editing, terminal persistence, persistent-context workers, Goal/Loop task tracking and Compact & Resume sessions.

Project overview

By combining local file, terminal and desktop access via MCP with workers that keep their context between tasks, it directly addresses ChatGPT's lack of project-level local access for coding and multi-agent work.

Project type: MCP · AI Agent · AI Coding
Use cases: Coding & Development
Deployment: Refer to project documentation
License: MIT

Best for

Developers who want to use ChatGPT as a local, project-level coding workspace with file, terminal and desktop access.
Users doing multi-agent coding work who need workers that keep context between tasks.

Key capabilities

Lets ChatGPT read and edit files, run tests, keep terminals open and use the desktop via MCP.
Extension that observes and automates the ChatGPT browser UI and records conversation content locally.
Connects local tools through MCP; added in ChatGPT under Plugins → Add → Create MCP App.

Limitations and risks

The Windows build is not publisher-signed; the macOS build is unsigned and unnotarized, so you may need to override OS security prompts to run it.
The project cannot guarantee policy compliance, continued service access, or protection from account warnings, restrictions or suspension when driving the ChatGPT service.

Getting started

Install CoS and approve your project folder in Settings → Workspace, then connect Core through Settings → Setup and add it in ChatGPT under Plugins → Add → Create MCP App. Requires a ChatGPT account/workspace able to create custom MCP apps; no coding is required.
