Thysrael/Horizon

horizon is an open-source application that collects, filters, and deduplicates news from sources such as RSS, Hacker News, Reddit, Telegram, X, GitHub, and financial news, then generates profile-driven daily briefings in English and Chinese. It runs self-hosted via Python, Docker, or from source, and uses an LLM provider API key for analysis.

Project overview

It turns scattered feeds, forums, and timelines into one scored, deduplicated daily briefing, and profiles give each kind of content its own scoring criteria and output for a handpicked-feeling result in both English and Chinese.

Project type: MCP · Workflow
Use cases: Knowledge Q&A · Automation
Deployment: Refer to project documentation

Best for

Readers who want worthwhile news from many scattered sources distilled into profile-driven daily briefings in English or Chinese.

Key capabilities

Follows RSS, Hacker News, Reddit, Telegram, X, GitHub, financial news and more; scores and deduplicates stories per profile.
Generates English and Chinese briefings as Markdown with summaries, context, and community discussion chosen by profile.

Limitations and risks

The twitter extra requires a Playwright browser and system packages which the Dockerfile does not install, so this source may not work under the provided Docker setup.
This open-source project is maintained in spare time, which is a factor to weigh when adopting it.
Analysis requires an API key from an LLM provider such as OpenAI, Gemini, or others, so the pipeline depends on a remote service rather than running fully locally.

Getting started

Setup requires cloning the repository, dependency sync, API key configuration, and wizard or manual configuration before running; it is operated through the command line.
