skill-recorder is a desktop application that records you performing a manual computer task once and turns it into a reusable Skill (SKILL.md) or a scheduled Automation that an AI agent can repeat. Session analysis is powered by GitHub Copilot in GitHub's cloud, while recording happens locally on your computer.
Project overview
It removes the need to hand-write procedure documentation for AI agents: you demonstrate a task once, and the tool generates an agent-ready procedure that can run on demand or on a schedule, preferring native agent tools over UI replay.

Best for
Users who want to convert one-time manual computer tasks into repeatable AI agent procedures without writing documentation by hand, and who are comfortable with cloud-based analysis of their recordings.
Key capabilities
Captures screen activity, window switches, browser URLs, clipboard previews, optional narration, and an optional recorded terminal locally on your computer while recording.
On Analyze, sends the session data to GitHub's cloud so Copilot reconstructs the work as one intent plus an ordered list of steps that the user can review and edit.
Generates a reusable SKILL.md procedure for agents to run on demand, or an Automation on a schedule or trigger, preferring native agent tools over UI replay.
Limitations and risks
Choosing Analyze sends recording data to GitHub's cloud for processing, so analysis is not a local operation.
Passwords, tokens, and API keys should never be recorded, typed, pasted, or narrated during a session, because the recording captures screen activity, clipboard previews, and narration.
Getting started
Setup is rated easy and requires no coding; you need a GitHub account with Copilot access, since Analyze sends recording data to GitHub's cloud for Copilot to process. If you use narration, an on-device Whisper model (~252 MB) is downloaded once on first use for transcription.
