Cindy is an open-source AI agent client that combines multiple harnesses, models, and tools into one agent for completing work in projects and apps. It can run desktop or from source, connects to Cindy's official cloud services by default, and offers a Skip Sign-In mode with local agents only.
Project overview
It addresses fragmented AI harnesses and tools by unifying them in a single out-of-the-box agent client, with flexible model sourcing (Cindy service, Claude Code / Codex Coding Plan, own API keys, or local models).

Best for
- Developers (and general users) who want a desktop-GUI AI agent client that combines harnesses such as Claude Code and Codex with flexible model sourcing to complete work in projects and apps.
- Users able to connect to Cindy's official cloud services by default, or willing to accept the reduced Skip Sign-In mode for local agents.
Key capabilities
- Choose Skip Sign-In on the login screen to use local agents without a Cindy account; server-backed capabilities are unavailable in this state.
- Wire internal tools and business systems into the agent via MCP; plugins are installed through SkillHub or manually.
Limitations and risks
- The client connects to Cindy's official cloud services by default; only Skip Sign-In mode is documented as running local agents without a Cindy account, and server-backed capabilities are unavailable in that mode. No end-to-end local-only data boundary is documented.
- GPU requirements, minimum hardware, coding requirements, and cost dependencies are not documented.
- Building from source is a monorepo contributor setup requiring Node.js 22.x, pnpm 10.x, and Git LFS, rated medium difficulty.
- The documented interaction mode is a desktop GUI; no other interaction modes are documented.
Getting started
- Clone the repository (git clone https://github.com/makecindy/cindy.git), enter the directory, run git lfs pull, then pnpm install. Contributor setup requires Node.js 22.x, pnpm 10.x, and Git LFS.
- On the login screen, either sign in (connecting to Cindy's official cloud services) or choose Skip Sign-In to use local agents without a Cindy account; then select a model source such as the Cindy service, a Claude Code / Codex Coding Plan, your own API keys, or local models.
Alternatives and comparisons
- A candidate to consider if you are evaluating a different approach to working with LLMs and coding agents than Cindy's unified agent client; evaluate it on its own documentation.
- A candidate to consider if you are evaluating other ways to run coding agents such as the Claude Code and Codex harnesses outside Cindy's unified client; evaluate it on its own documentation.

- README: Cindy is an open-source AI agent that works out of the box. She brings multiple harnesses, models and tools into one agent that finishes real work in your projects and apps.
- README: The first supported harnesses are **Claude Code** and **Codex** — more are being added, and a native harness is in the works.
- README: | `apps/desktop` | Electron desktop client | | `apps/mobile` | Expo / React Native mobile client |
- README: Choose “Skip Sign-In” on the login screen to use local agents; the app then shows the account state as “Not signed in”. Server-backed capabilities are unavailable in this state.
- README: - **MCP** — wire your internal tools and business systems into her reach.
