agent0ai/agent-zero

Agent Zero is an open agent framework that gives the agent a Dockerized Linux desktop, a browser with DOM annotation, live document cowork, and a bridge to the host machine. It targets work that chat-only agents cannot perform, such as driving real software, browsers, files, and desktop apps.

Project overview

Its agent runs a real XFCE desktop session inside the container rather than a remote VM or shared clipboard, and its browser can open, read, click, type, and screenshot pages with an Annotate mode that turns page elements into instructions.

Use cases: Coding & Development · Automation

Best for

Developers who need an agent that can operate real software, browsers, files, and desktop apps rather than only chatting.
Users able to run Docker and configure their own LLM provider, for example an OpenAI Codex plan via OAuth login.

Key capabilities

Runs a real XFCE desktop session in the container so the agent can drive GUI software, terminals, and files while the user watches and intervenes.
A browser that can open, read, click, type, and screenshot pages; Annotate mode turns page elements into inspect/change/lift/review instructions.
Agents create subordinate agents to delegate tasks and receive focused reports.

Limitations and risks

Time Travel is not a replacement for Git or backups; keep version control and backups in place for your work.
Operation requires a user-configured LLM provider, such as an OpenAI Codex plan via OAuth login; this is an external service dependency, not an internal model.

Getting started

Ensure Docker is running, run 'docker run -p 80:80 -v a0_usr:/a0/usr agent0ai/agent-zero', then open the Web UI, configure your LLM provider, and start with a concrete task.
